We\u2019re building a farmhouse in Marbury, AL\u2014a front-porch home with gathering spaces, a kitchen at the center, durable finishes, and thoughtful details for accessibility, efficiency, and storm safety. We\u2019re keeping as many trees as possible so the house still feels tucked into the woods.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n

On these wooded acres we\u2019re keeping the land as native as possible\u2014preserving tree lines and wildlife paths so the deer, owls, and fireflies still feel at home\u2014and we can\u2019t wait to share it with friends and the neighbors who wander over to the porch.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The house sits on 38 acres with a long drive up to the home site, open pasture views, and plenty of room for everyday life: muddy boots on the porch, coffee at sunrise, and a big table for friends and family.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n

Our design keeps the classic farmhouse feel\u2014welcoming porches, lots of natural light, and durable materials\u2014while adding modern comforts. Inside, the kitchen is the hub, with open sight-lines for easy gathering. We\u2019ve planned smart storage, a mudroom for farm chores, and flexible spaces that can shift between work, guests, and quiet corners to relax. Accessibility and resilience matter to us, too, so we\u2019re prioritizing step-friendly entries, efficient systems, and a safe place for severe weather.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n

We can\u2019t wait to tend the blueberry orchard, keep chickens (maybe), and carve out a sunny garden beside the barn. Down the road, we’ll build a woodworking shop.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Our neighbor’s across the road, the Whittles, have a good size zoo with donkeys, goats, dogs and a guard pig.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
